Jamie Carragher and Peter Crouch agree on Arsenal title prediction as Liverpool challenge set

[ WATCH TV LIVE ]

Arsenal are set to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a huge Premier League clash this afternoon. The Gunners have gone unbeaten in their opening eight fixtures so far this season - winning six and drawing twice.

Mikel Arteta added Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya to his squad in the summer transfer window as Arsenal target another Premier League title challenge this season. The Gunners' latest win in the Premier League saw Gabriel Martinelli score a dramatic late winner against reigning champions Manchester City - moving them level with Tottenham at the top of the table.

Ex-Liverpool star Peter Crouch believes the Gunners - along with Jurgen Klopp's side - are the only two teams capable of beating City to the Premier League title this season. Speaking to TNT Sport, the former Liverpool striker said: “I think they [Liverpool] are definitely in with a shout, I think it’s them and Arsenal chasing City.

“If you had to hang your hat on it or, you had to have a bet on it for your life, then you’d say City win the league. But I think Liverpool can be the best of the rest and push them all the way.”

Jamie Carragher agreed with Crouch's assessment that only Arsenal and Liverpool are serious challengers against Manchester City for the Premier League title. "The only way Liverpool – or anyone else – can win the Premier League is if Manchester City wobble," he told The Telegraph.

"City’s recent defeats by Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal have given the rest a glimmer of hope. If Liverpool are in a position to take advantage, that is beyond the pre-season expectations.

"Arsenal are considered the most likely to pip City. Are Arsenal better than Liverpool? We will know by Christmas."

The Gunners have had a strong start in the Premier League but will face a difficult test this afternoon against Chelsea. The Blues have had a shaky start under Mauricio Pochettino but come into the game following three consecutive wins in all competitions.
