Jurgen Klopp is certainly not ready to move past the VAR controversy that affected Liverpool in their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Tottenham this past Saturday. Understandably so, Klopp feels as though his team were cost points as a direct result of several significant VAR errors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but his latest claim is truly baffling.

Firstly, let's admit, as strong as the outcry was at the time that Curtis Jones should not have been sent off for his challenge on Yves Bissouma, it absolutely was a sending off and that has been further proven by Liverpool's review to have his three-game ban rescinded being rejected. The Diogo Jota red card is perhaps more debateable but that was out of VAR's hands and at the time Simon Hooper felt as though the Portugal international had committed two fouls worthy of a card.

Onto *that* Luis Diaz goal, and yes it is absolutely right that it should have counted and the recent release of the VAR audio from that review proves a clear and obvious wrong decision was made. While certain errors that affect results in other Premier League games can be subjective, this was objectively wrong.

However, calls for a replay to be held are truly baffling. "As far as I can remember, something like that never happened, that's why I think a replay should be played," said Klopp in his latest verdict on the incident. "They didn't do it on purpose and we shouldn't forget that. Yes, it was a mistake. An obvious mistake. I think there would have been solutions. I think the outcome should be a replay. Probably won't happen."

Despite his plea, Klopp's final words make sense because there are so many mitigating factors - do we just simply forget that Jones was not on the pitch when Diaz scored? There is no possible way of knowing, that had the Diaz goal been given, the game would still have not ended with Tottenham winning.

Mistakes are frequent in football and replaying this game sets an awful precedent that simply cannot be allowed to happen and yet the manager of Liverpool Football Club believes it should, which is a huge contradiction when placed alongside his fixture complaints from the past few years.

Who can forget Klopp's infamous rant at the innocent Des Kelly for Liverpool playing the early kick off against Brighton, a game that took place three days after a Champions League defeat to Atalanta. Liverpool also have the Europa League to contend with this season and their progress in the Carabao Cup means the fixture would not actually be able to be played until January 2024.

This time last year, on the eve of the 2022 World Cup commencing Klopp bizarrely compared fixture congestion to climate change. "When we start talking about it (fixture congestion) I really get angry. It is like with the climate. We all know we have to change but people are like 'what do we have to do?'. I'm in that as well, no doubt about that.

"The problem is the players that play the World Cup. It's just not ok. If you reach the semi-final then you are already quite busy and then the rest starts a week later. My problem is that as much as everyone knows that it is not right, nobody talks often enough about it that it will be changed. Something has to change."

The PGMOL have apologised for the error and that is unfortunately for those of a Liverpool persuasion, as far as the matter is going to go. That game being voided now would leave a lot of Premier League clubs furious. Arsenal lost two points in the middle of an intense title race because of a VAR error. Countless teams have been told they should have had penalties which, if scored, could have significantly changed the outcome of the game.

At the end of the day, whether it was officially written in the laws or not, the only time that a major change should've been made was right after the officials at Stockley Park had realised their mistake. There is no point in making a drastic change four days after the game just because the outcry of injustice has been so strong especially with Klopp's best argument coming across as ironic when placed into the context of everything he has bemoaned about for the last few years.
