Fresh Bukayo Saka injury concern emerges as Arsenal handed early Man City boost

[ WATCH TV LIVE ]

Arsenal made it five wins in seven Premier League games yesterday with a commanding 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth. The Gunners outclassed their opponents from minute one and are now one of two unbeaten teams in the league.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, William Saliba and Declan Rice all overcame their Injury concerns to start at the Vitality Stadium. However, there were further concerns for Mikel Arteta to deal with from their trip down south.

Manchester City's shock 2-1 loss at Wolves has meant the north Londoners are now only one point behind Pep Guardiola's side ahead of next week's meeting at the Emirates Stadium.

Bournemouth victory

Arsenal continued their unbeaten start to the 2023/24 season with an emphatic 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth yesterday. The Gunners are now only one of two Premier League clubs to avoid defeat after seven games.

Goals from Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Ben White handed Mikel Arteta's men another three points to move them within only one point of Manchester City. The pair, of course, meet next week in an early season nail-biter.

"Very happy," Arteta said on the win. "The way we approached the game, I think since yesterday the team was ready to play. We knew we had a big challenge against a team who doesn’t have what they deserve with the games they’ve played I think.

"They don’t give you any time, it’s a small pitch and it’s difficult to get out of that.. We read the game very well and earned the right to win it."

Saka injury concern

Mikel Arteta has provided the latest on Bukayo Saka's injury after he was forced to come off during Arsenal's 4-0 win over Bournemouth. Midway through the second half with Arsenal three goals up Saka went down after being caught by the follow through while trying to block a shot from Milos Kerkez.

Saka was not the only injury concern on the day for Arsenal. Gabriel Jesus also appeared to pick up an injury late on in the game after the Gunners had made all five of their substitutions.

Jesus went down close to the Bournemouth goal and waited to receive treatment, but the game was restarted before the Arsenal physio could enter the pitch. Noticing the game had restarted Jesus then hopped up before jogging gingerly back towards his own half to help defend.

Now Arteta has provided the latest on both players in his post-match press conference. "I don't [know] yet as I haven't had a chance to speak to him," the Spaniard said when asked about Saka's injury and whether it was in the same area as the Spurs one. "I think it was a stamp in the same area but Gabi was limping as well after the game so let's see how they are."

Man City boost

Pep Guardiola's men will visit the Emirates Stadium next Sunday following the midweek's Champions League action in what could be a decisive early-season fixture in the title race.

And ahead of the game, Arsenal have been handed a boost a week before the clash after Guardiola's side lost 2-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers. The defeat at Molineux means they have now lost two consecutive games for the first time since January following Wednesday's Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle.

In both games, Rodri has been absent as part of his suspension. The holding midfielder was sent off in last weekend's 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest and will miss next week's clash with the Gunners.

Wolves showed exactly how to defeat a Man City side without Rodri patrolling things in midfield. Arsenal aren't expected to replicate the Wanderers' game plan of deploying 11 men behind the ball, but the two losses will be positive viewing for Arteta.
