Mauricio Pochettino sends Moises Caicedo injury update ahead of Chelsea vs Aston Villa

[ WATCH TV LIVE ]

Mauricio Pochettino has said Moises Caicedo needs to be assessed before deciding if he is available for Chelsea's match with Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon. The 21-year-old midfielder missed last weekend's goalless draw with AFC Bournemouth after picking up a minor knee injury while on international duty with Ecuador.

Caicedo was forced to watch from home on Sunday as Chelsea failed to score for a second successive game. Pochettino, though, is hoping he can welcome back the Ecuadorian, who cost £116million in the summer transfer window, for the visit of Villa at the weekend.

"We need to assess Moises tomorrow," Pochettino said. "He was training in a difficult way, not with the team, until today. We need to assess him tomorrow to see if he can be involved for Sunday."

Pochettino was also asked about the likes of Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke who both missed last weekend's trip down to the south coast. The Argentine also mentioned Armando Broja, who is close to returning to the side since suffering a serious knee injury that has kept him on the sidelines since the end of last year.

"Marc suffered a fever," Pochettino added. "He's back and has started training. Noni was involved also in the week in training. Maybe for Armando on Sunday, but we're not sure and we need to assess him tomorrow. We need to recover players and it's important that many names and players can start to be available to be involved in the game."

As football.london reported on Thursday, Benoit Badiashile suffered a minor setback to his recovery from a hamstring problem. However, the latest injury is not serious – and Pochettino confirmed that at Cobham.

Graham Potter's parting message for Chelsea that is impossible for Mauricio Pochettino to ignore

"Yeah, but it was in a different muscle, a different thing," the Chelsea head coach replied when asked about Badiashile. "But it was minor, it was a small strain. Reece, Chukwuemeka and also Chalobah, they're very close to training with the team."

Chelsea welcome Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon looking for just their second victory of the Premier League season. The Blues, however, have failed to find the back of the net in their last two league games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, so will be hoping to be a lot more effective in front of goal this weekend.
