Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey - Arsenal injury news and return dates ahead of Everton clash

[ UK TV LIVE ]

Bukayo Saka is the latest Arsenal star to be considered a doubt ahead of the return of Premier League action this weekend. The England international has been struggling with an achilles issue during the break but did feature in the 3-1 win against Scotland earlier this week.

A number of Arsenal stars have been on international duty for the last week with an Injury scare being suffered by Gabriel Magalhaes as the biggest concern. Thankfully for the Gunners, no serious issue looks to be evident with the Brazil international unlikely to join Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber in the treatment room.

With that said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Arsenal injury news ahead of their trip to Goodison Park this Sunday.

Bukayo Saka

Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka continues to be nagged by an Achilles injury that dogged him last season, according to The Daily Mail.

It was slightly surprising to see Saka named on the bench for Tuesday night's friendly against Scotland but it is claimed that his omission was down to an Achilles issue. The Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate previously revealed the issue back in June following the youngster's unforgettable hattrick against North Macedonia.

Speaking about Saka's goals after that game, Southgate said: "We weren't surprised by the first one, that's how he's been all week, we hadn't seen the second one coming. I am delighted for him.

"He's had a slightly sore Achilles and it's another one where it would have been easy to lull out on the camp and miss out on a night like this that I'm sure will live with him forever."

Return date: Everton (A) - Sunday, September 17

Gabriel Magalhaes

Gabriel Magalhaes was spotted with ice on his thigh after being substituted in the 85th minute of his Brazil debut.

Earlier in the game, the Gunners star was on the receiving end of a horror challenge from Bolivia's Diego Ibanez in the fifth minute. Ibanez's attempt to win the ball went completely wrong, striking Gabriel in the chest with his right knee - but the Arsenal defender continued on for another 80 minutes.

Physical therapy doctor Dr. Rajpal Brar provided a brief update on his initial assessment of the injury. On Twitter, he wrote: "Thigh issue for Arsenal CB Gabriel Magalhaes - unsure if it's contact related or a muscle pull."

Brar later provided another update: "Based on what multiple people have told me, sounds contact-related. Overall good news."

Gabriel then took part in Brazil training after Arsenal were left sweating over his fitness, according to Charles Watts. The 25-year-old then played the full game for Brazil against Peru on Tuesday, a huge boost for Arteta.

Return date: Everton (A) - Sunday, September 17

Mohamed Elneny

The midfielder suffered a serious knee injury in January, which sidelined him for the remainder of last season. In training pictures released by Arsenal on Wednesday, September 13, Elneny was pictured back with the squad, suggesting a return could be close.

Injury: Knee

Return date: September/October 2023.

Thomas Partey

The Ghana FA confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Partey had sustained a groin problem during a training session on Thursday, a major blow to Arteta. It remains to be seen how long the 30-year-old will be on the sidelines for.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal hope Partey will be available after the October international break.

Injury: Groin

Return date: October

What the Ghana FA have said: "He sustained a groin injury during training on Thursday, August 31, 2023. He is currently unavailable as Club Doctors predict he's likely to be out for a couple of weeks."

What Mikel Arteta has said: "I don't know. Unfortunately, he got injured in training. It doesn't look good. I believe he'll be out for a few weeks. It's more a groin."

Jurrien Timber

football.london understands that the Dutch international underwent successful surgery two weeks ago and now in the "recovery phase" of his rehabilitation.

He was in attendance for the game against Man United. football.london spoke to Timber post-match where the 22-year-old was still using the aid of two crutches to move about.

Asked how he was feeling with his recovery, a swift, "good, good" was the response. He will be sorely missed, especially with the club failing to find a suitable replacement in the summer transfer window.

Injury: Knee

Return date: 2024

What Arteta has said: "Huge blow. Especially for him after just joining the club. To have the injury he has is a huge blow. We recruited him with clear intentions and what he was bringing to the team was evident, but he's not going to be able to do it this season. We have to adapt. These things happen, unfortunately, and we have to move on."
