Chelsea news - Pep Guardiola copies Mauricio Pochettino plan as Man City find transfer loophole

[ UK TV LIVE ]

Here is your Chelsea morning roundup on Wednesday, September 5.

Chelsea warned against Sancho deal

Mauricio Pochettino has been told to avoid signing Jadon Sancho from Manchester United. The 23-year-old winger has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea recently after falling out with Erik ten Hag.

In an interview with BetFred, Glen Johnson said: "If you’re not getting in Manchester United’s squad, then you’re not getting into Chelsea’s. Jadon came to the Premier League with a lot of potential, but that potential only lasts so long and you need to start proving it.

"He joined a huge club with a massive reputation and he hasn’t done anything. He’s a bit like Wilfried Zaha, a player that offers an awful lot but offers very little.

"If you can’t work hard in training then you’re not going to play and as he’s currently not good enough for Manchester United, then he’s not going to be good enough for Chelsea."

Ferdinand questions Southgate call

Rio Ferdinand has questioned why Gareth Southgate decided to omit Raheem Sterling from the England squad, yet still pick Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips. The Three Lions boss overlooked the in-form Chelsea star ahead of a crucial European qualifier against Ukraine and a friendly versus Scotland.

Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, the former Manchester United defender said: "If I was Sterling, I’d be very disappointed, bearing in mind what he’s done for this England team when he’s been in or around it.

"If you’re going by the yardstick that Gareth’s using with the likes of Maguire and Phillips, why is it all right for them guys to get in and not him? Sterling’s probably been the main bright spark at Chelsea."

City loophole

Manchester City could deliver a major blow to Chelsea's hopes of signing Gabriel Moscardo. The 17-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the final days of the summer transfer window but, despite interest from the Blues, a deal failed to materialise before the deadline.

According to Brazilian outlet Itatiaia, Moscardo has a €15m (£12.8m) release clause for Brazilian clubs in his contract. Therefore, Bahia, who are owned by the City Group and interested in the teenager, could buy him for less than what the Premier League champions might have to pay if they negotiate with Corinthians.

While Pep Guardiola's side could, in theory, manoeuvre around the price tag and save millions, Itatiaia add that Corinthians aren't interested in that kind of move and they're ready to advance in their talks with Chelsea.
