The store, if all goes according to plan, will be located in New Kent County, Virginia, along Interstate 64, east of Richmond. It will be a 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s, which is about the size of the proposed store, which is reportedly heading to DeForest, Wisconsin.

Located at exit 211 on I-64, Buc-ee’s will be in direct competition with the nearby Love’s Travel Stop and Pilot Travel Center, although if you read last week’s article about Wisconsin Buc-ee’s, the company thinks people know that they “go to Buc-ee before they get in the car”.

120 gas stations, 557 parking spaces, 24 Tesla charging spots, and 10 van and bus spots are promised in Virginia. As expected, 18-wheelers are banned.

According to the report, Buc-ee has filed a conditional use permit with the New Kent County Planning and Zoning Department. The company says it is working with the Virginia Department of Transportation and New Kent County personnel to “evaluate transportation improvements needed for the project.” These improvements include:

• Coordination of design and construction work with the current I-64 expansion project.
• Implementation of expected flyover modifications/additions required to service the project and the surrounding commercial development.
• Coordination of the project schedule to ensure that the completion of the required traffic improvement is synchronized with the completion of the project.

If it is approved and construction goes according to plan, the store will open in 2027 and the first Buc-ee will appear in Virginia.
