Gymnastics: 17th Annual Rose City Classic for Oil Palace

Over 900 athletes will take part in the 17th Annual Rose City Classical Gymnastics Meeting this weekend at The Oil Palace (10408 State Highway 64, Tyler, 75707).

The meeting starts on Friday and continues until Sunday. New for this year is the Battle of the Rose NCAA meeting, featuring Texas Woman’s University and Louisiana Centenary College. Steely King, a former Cumberland academy and member of the East Texas gymnastics team, competes for TWU. The NCAA meeting will take place on Saturday at 19:00. Doors open at 6:30 pm for the collegiate competition.

Rose City Classic will include sessions throughout each day. All sessions, including the NCAA meeting between TWU and Centenary, are open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance or online at rosecityclassicinvitational.com. Tickets are $25 per day (children and seniors, $15) or a weekend pass for $40 (children and seniors, $25).

Friday’s schedule includes: Session I, All Levels 6, 8:00 AM; Session II, level 7, 10:40; Session III, level 7 and diamond, 13:30; Session IV, level 8 and sapphire, 16:20; and Session V, 18:30

Scheduled Saturday: Session VI, Level 9, 8:30 AM; Session VII, levels 9 and 10, 10:45; and session VIII, level 10, 13:30. The NCAA meeting starts at 7:00 pm.

The schedule on Sunday includes: Session IX, Bronze and Silver, 8:00; Session X, levels 2, 3 and silver, 9:20; Session XI, levels 4, 5 and Gold, 11:00; Session XII, Gold, 13:30; and Session XIII, All Platinum, 16:00

King joined the Texas East Gymnastics as a freshman at the Cumberland Academy in Tyler. In four years, she rose through the ranks from level 8 to level 10 and signed a contract with Texas Woman’s University.

Over the years, the Rose City Classic has hosted gymnasts from both colleges and the Olympics.

Coaches and owners Stacey and Martin Parsley, along with trainers Alyssa Davis, Marisol Knight and Madison Dunlap of the Texas East Gymnastics (TEG), have been hard at work preparing their teams for this season and always strive for the best from their athletes.

The Texas East Gymnastics Booster Club is a non-profit organization created to help minimize expenses incurred by the competitive gymnastics team at Texas East Gymnastics. All proceeds from the 2022 Rose City Classic draw will support the TEG Booster Club.
