In Whatcom County, lowland snowfall remains a possibility. here is the forecast

Bellingham and low-lying Whatcombe County will see some snowfall over the weekend and next week, according to Seattle National Weather Service forecasts.

According to meteorologist Dev McMillian, the best chances for snow are early Saturday morning, March 4, and the night of Sunday, March 5 through Monday, March 6.

“(But) any prolonged winter weather in the lowlands should subside as warmer weather sets in in the morning. Temperatures will remain a few degrees below average for this time of year,” McMillian said in an online forecast discussion on Friday afternoon, March 3.

Otherwise, rain is possible on both Saturday and Sunday.

Daily highs will range from 40 to 40 on Saturday and 40 to 40 on Sunday and Monday. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid-30s range.

Here’s what to expect this weekend, according to the National Weather Service:

Light accumulations of snow in lowlands, especially on grassy or elevated surfaces, including bridges, overpasses, and secondary roadways. Congestion can occur on major roads during heavy rainstorms.

Frosts from Saturday evening to Sunday morning and again from Sunday evening to Monday morning can result in patches of ice, especially on unfinished surfaces.

Most areas will experience a mixture of rain and snow from Saturday evening to Saturday morning, with any accumulations largely limited to grassy ground. Small accumulations of snow are possible on paved surfaces.

Unseasonally low temperatures can affect people living outdoors and those who do not have adequate access to heating. Sensitive crops and plants may be damaged.

Lowest temperatures are expected from Sunday evening to Monday morning.

Continued light rain is possible next week with minimal snow potential in the lowlands, especially at night.
