School districts and police across the state, including in the Las Vegas area, reported false 911 calls about School shootings today.

Boulder City police received a call just before 8 a.m. that the shooter was at Boulder City High School, the city said in a tweet. Officers arrived “almost immediately” after the call and found no shooting, although the school was closed until the threat was deemed unfounded by police. It was the second such call to the school since December.

Swotting is the practice of a malicious prank making false reports of a crime to the police in order to force a large number of armed officers, including SWAT tactical teams, to surround the place.

“CCSD takes all threats and rumors of threats seriously,” Clark School District said in a statement today. “CCSDPD is working closely with law enforcement partners to investigate the origin of spoofed calls and threatening messages. School and law enforcement officials in Nye, Churchill, Elko and Douglas Counties also posted on their official social media accounts today about the shootings and related lockdowns.

In Churchill County, Fallon police sent all available officers to Churchill County High School after receiving a report of an imminent shooting and placed a lockdown on all six of the city’s schools. Elko County sheriff’s deputies responded to Elko High School “within minutes” of receiving the call. The Nye County School District posted a warning on its website that it had implemented its “Stay where you are” procedures, and the sheriff’s department was conducting additional school patrols throughout the day.

In Douglas County, a school district placed a lockdown on six campuses around Gardnerville and Minden after receiving a call about a shooting at Sierra Chef, a Genoa-based business that offers cooking classes, from a person who said “they went into the school and shot everyone” . they see with an AR-15 rifle,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
