Police: Shooting involving an officer outside the Springdale Public Library

Police say the “officer-involved shooting” took place near the Springdale Public Library on St. Pleasant Street – now at the scene of the 5NEWS incident.

Springdale, Arkansas. Springdale police respond to a shooting involving an officer outside the Springdale Public Library.

Police say the Suspect is twenty years old and was armed with a gun when they arrived.

The suspect allegedly ran away from the cops after a short conversation before pulling a gun from his belt. Police say officers fired multiple shots at the suspect during the chase, which went through “several yards” and that when police caught up with the suspect, they noted that he had sustained injuries during the pursuit.

Police do not say whether the suspect fired his weapon or not, but confirms that the suspect was taken to a local hospital.

One officer was reportedly wounded during the foot chase.

The Washington and Springdale Police Departments will be investigating, and one officer is on paid administrative leave as per policy, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing, journalists are working on the spot.
