FAIRFIELD – Fort Madison took 3rd place at the annual Southern Iowa Classic in Fairfield on Saturday, taking first place along the way.

Logan Pennock, Aidan Pennock, Nolan Riddle, Teague Smith and Ike Thacher took first place, helping the Beagles to 165.5 points, trailing Burlington at 168 and Prairie City-Monroe at 202.5.

Ike Thacher continues to compete, winning 4 of 4 on the day with three pins and a 9-0 decision by the judges. The junior turned the first two matches into first-period flops. His battle with Prairie City Monroe’s Nate Richards went far, but Thacher covered his opponent. Halfway through the second period, his title match was head and shoulders above Burlington’s Moise Cordero.

Smith went 3-for-3 with three pins a day, all of which came in the first period.

Logan Pennock took another 1st place this year at 126 pounds with three pins a day. Pennock lost in the second period to PCM’s Remington Fry. He also received a pin over Mt.Pleasant’s Charlie Bonenkamp in the first round.

Nolan Riddle (145 pounds) won that day 4-0, including three pins and a decision. His title match with Fairfield’s Cason Miller ended and Riddle saved by a 4–3 decision.

Senior Aidan Pennock had arguably the fastest night fight in the five matches of the tournament and they all hit pins in the first period.

Corey Arnett finished second, losing in the fall in the title game to PCM Monroe’s Caden Clark, but went through the first four rounds unscathed with three pins and an injury penalty.

Hounds Noah Swigart (120), Emmett Cruz (160), Hayden Segoviano (220) finished in 3rd place on Saturday.
