Answering your questions and emails about Las Vegas Raiders

Henderson, Nevada. The Las Vegas Raiders stand out around the world for having the most ardent and dedicated fans in all professional sports.

Every week we answer your questions and emails, so let’s get started:

Hondo, I have a great idea and this is a rumor I hear from someone connected. Dave Ziegler is trying to trade Derek Carr to the New Orleans Saints for the rights to Sean Payton. What do you think about this? S. Curtis

I think whoever told you this is NOT only NOT connected, but if you believe it or think it’s relevant in any way, you’re out of the loop. Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels are a package deal. Ziegler wouldn’t be a general manager if he couldn’t deliver McDaniels.

Hondo, I heard something from someone who I think should have known. They said they’d keep him as a safety net when the Raiders couldn’t trade Derek Carr. Appreciate your work, Paul T.

Again, you can listen to whoever you want. The Raiders are NOT paying $40 million for a backup QB. The ship of Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders has sailed.

Hey Hondo, I’m all for slop cleaning; however, it is counterintuitive to turn NFL “bad guys” into drones. Jacksonville goes from worst to this. Raiders go from 10-6 over here. Jason S.

You make some fair points, but you forget that Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler also have a boss. If their boss wants Tom Brady, they don’t have many options.

Hondo, I was excited to see your latest Q&A article about the possibility of the Raiders going with a rookie. I was also shocked to hear that you don’t think any of the beginner options are any better than Derek Carr in your opinion. My question is: which QB rookie do you like? Jason H.

Not done with my assessments and research, but thanks for reading.

Hi Hondo, I always listen and read your Q&A and am really shocked by the hate mail addressed to you, the coaches and DC. I’m a die-hard Raiders fan, but I’m still shocked by the personal attacks on people. My question is, how much does Mark Davis care about winning? Was this season really hard for him, as it was for Al? They said that Al took it very hard. Thanks again for everything you do to keep us updated. Sincerely, J. Niyazi.

I think this is a brilliant question. I think it’s very important for Davis. He had two coaches who took his team to the NFL playoffs, and he fired them both. Was it a good move? You can argue about both, but at least he did what he thought was the best move in that direction. Is he a football guy like Al? No, but that doesn’t mean that winning isn’t important to him.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to stay at seven, and if Skoronski and/or Johnson Jr. are both still there, which is likely to trade one or two picks and use draft capital to take one of them or fold a few more. seats and take Broderick Jones and then tie a couple of picks to try and get Anthony Richardson as QB to sit down and learn the system and play Stidham. Rob Roy Douglas Reno, Nevada

I have previously reported that they have not yet shown an affinity for Jarrett Stidham as a starter. I know that the Raiders have looked at Piotr Skoronski for a long time and that they love him. Do they love others more? I’m not sure right now, but if the Raiders can trade, get extra picks, and still get Skoronski in this draft, it would be an excellent trade.

Hi Hondo, I love your work and I respect your views. Here’s my question: Does Mark Davis understand that he alone (with a little help from his top management) is responsible for all of these disappointing Raiders seasons? Gruden really should have gone, but generally speaking, 3 years, then playoffs, then dismissal, no more. Have a good day. Kevin S.

I previously reported that Mark Davis was confused and angry about this season. He understands very well that the Raiders fans are unhappy, and he is unhappy.

Hey Hondo… love your work and honesty… is there a scenario for Carr to stay with the Raiders? They need a QB who uses his legs. Is Brady getting younger and going to turn into Steve Young or Mike Vick? G. Merryweather

No.

Hey Hondo, how many fans do you think the Raiders will lose if Brady comes to Vegas? There are so many other better options out there. Why take Raider Nemesis from Tuck Rule and Deflate Gate as your favorite guy? Lamar Jackson and Jimmy Garoppolo, to name a couple, are better options and more in line with the Raider Nation mentality. Fan of Bob B Ryder since 1973.

Jimmy Garoppolo, in my opinion, is not an upgrade. Getting him and not keeping Derek Carr doesn’t make sense. Unlike Carr, they are very similar players, but Garoppolo is always injured.

I love Lamar Jackson but his style is 100% different from Josh McDaniels. Why involve Josh and Lamar, who don’t have his system working? Don’t get me wrong, Jackson ELITE, but he doesn’t play the way Josh’s system dictates.

As far as losing fans, if Brady comes in here and wins, a lot of the people who say they’re leaving won’t leave. In every election, people on both sides of the political spectrum say they will leave if their party doesn’t win, and no one does.

Will they lose a part? Yes, but I think they will benefit much more. It might hurt, but I don’t think they care. They will do what they think is right and live with it.

Hondo, can you give me a percentage of what you think probably means the Raiders will be able to trade Derek Carr before they have to cut him? Tom F.

Great question. 65%

Thank you for everything you do, Hondo. Reading your articles is the highlight of my week. To what extent will Derek’s sensitivity cut his market? Robert K.

I appreciate your question. I don’t think Derek is overly sensitive, so let me explain. John Gruden, and I think I made it clear, was tough on Derek, but the brunt of it was in private. Not all, but the main. I don’t think Josh was that violent, but I do think Josh was much more detailed in his criticism and it was almost all in front of the team. According to the people I spoke to, they didn’t feel that Derek appreciated it. Nobody ever said he was soft, just not the way it was said. Many years ago, someone taught me: “It’s not what you say, but how and where you say it.” Derek has a market and is highly respected in the league.

Hondo, will the Raiders try to deal with the mixed crowd by introducing a huge number of visiting teams? Tom and Marianne M.

At the end of 2021, you saw the crowd very supportive of the raiders. The team cannot do anything to stop people from selling their tickets. Nothing. If the Raiders win, the Raider Nation will be there. This problem is not in the crowd, don’t do it.

The problem is the losing team and the fans who spend a lot of money on the loser so they try to make up for their losses.

If the Raiders hit their top 3 QBs they are chasing, will they go into recovery mode? Andrew K.

If the Raiders go with a rookie that doesn’t bother them, they can deliver immediately and they can convince Davante of that, fine. They’re in trouble if they go with a rookie who doesn’t produce or can’t convince Davante. Davante is more popular with fans than Mark Davis, Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels. If he wants to leave, there will be massive fan reaction. Davis, Ziegler and McDaniels said it was not a reenactment. If Davante wants to leave, it’s because he doesn’t want to be involved in the rebuilding, which is what he foresees.

Hondo-Thank you for all the outstanding effort you have put into your work; it shows. Dave Z has gone on record several times that he wants to create a sustainable winning team and build it for the long term. If that’s true, wouldn’t signing Brady be the exact opposite of that thought process? Am I crazy thinking that Dave and Josh only want to sign Brady to please Mark and buy them more time? Thanks Sam M.

You may be thinking in the wrong paradigm. Let me explain. If Tom Brady wants to be a raider, he will be. While I think Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels believe that this team can win quickly and do it with Tom Brady, their owner also believes in it. Mark Davis owns this franchise. His voice is the LOUDEST in the room.

I have written extensively about this in the past, so I would encourage you to read this.

Hondo, I respect you for saying this for weeks now, but I have a little question. Do you still think the Raiders will trade players other than Derek Carr during the off-season? Trent b.

As you mentioned, I stated it and yes, 100% they will.
