Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Fenerbahce defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has revealed the reason he had to stand up against Trabzonspor Fans.

The Nigerian International made the headlines last week after he physically confronted fans of Trabzonspor who attacked his team after a Super Lig match.

Osayi for the first time opened up on the situation on Monday and explained his side of the story.

Some people say what I did was not self-defence. If someone comes at you with a knife in his hand, how can this not be self-defence? They came to the field from the stands,” he was quoted by Bein Sports.

“I only had to defend my team and my friends there. Many of my teammates were coming into the locker room with cuts and bruises.

” I cannot understand how such events are possible on a football field.”
