A Busia court has sentenced a man to 31 years in prisont or pay a fine of Ksh.30 million for child trafficking.
Appearing before Busia Chief Magistrate Lucy Ambasi, 27-year-old Evans Shiundu pleaded guilty to the offence of trafficking a 14-year old girl from Namanga village in Kakamega County between 8th and 11th September this year.
The accused took the girl to Busia County to work as a hosehelp without pay.
The court heard that the accused has been operating with several other people committing such offences in the region.
However, the nationality of the man, according to the chief magistrate is also not yet clear.
This comes as cases of disappearance and abduction continue to increase in the region with most victims landing in the neighbouring Uganda as casual labourers.
Chief Magistrate Ambasi has put a stern warning to those involved in such heinous acts that they will be dealt with according to the law.
