Lampard reiterates his support from Roman Abramovich / Penalty taker conundrum at Chelsea as Frank rethinks spot-kick taker

Roman approves

Roman Abramovich was seen in rare attendance of Chelsea’s 4-0 win in Russia against Krasnodar. The Russian owner of Chelsea’s visa issues have meant he has been unable to travel to the UK.

However, playing in his homeland, Abramovich was able to join the 11,000 strong crowd and watch the Blues run riot.

Lampard was pleased that the man who employed Lampard was able to see his team perform so well. “To have him here is a nice bonus for myself and the squad,” Lampard said. “I’m very pleased we put on what I thought was a good performance.”

“I always feel the support of the owner of the club, whether he’s here at games or not,” Lampard mentioned. “A couple of my staff members spoke to him, but by the time I came out in the warm-up he wasn’t around.”

“We got four goals and a clean sheet in his home country, and I hope it made him happy.”

Penalty pick

Despite the resounding victory, Lampard did appear to suggest a penalty shake up could be in order. Jorginho missed his second of the season, Krasnodar given a glimmer of hope at the beginning of the game. The spot kick specialist, who enjoys a small hop, skip and jump to put off the goalkeeper, struck the post.

“Jorginho has had an incredibly successful rate of scoring penalties in his career, particularly at Chelsea,” said Lampard.

“My feeling is when you take as many penalties as he does, there can be periods when you miss one, and sometimes there can be periods where you miss one or two. I experienced that as a player.

“I’ve got no problem at all with his style of taking them, because of the success he’s had, and Timo Werner, I know he’s very capable to take penalties as we saw.”

“We have other players that can as well, so I’ll talk with the players afterwards to see how we move forward. But we have good penalty takers at the club.”

Werner scored a penalty in the same game and could soon be in line to become the club’s spot kick specialist in the upcoming fixtures.
