BEVERLY HILLS, November 16, (THEWILL) – The University of Benin has Rusticated five students of the institution for allegedly leading protests against hike in various fees in the school.

They were rusticated after they were made to face the Students’ Disciplinary Committe whose decision was ratified by the Senate.

Some of the affected students are members of the institution’s Student Union Government (SUG) who were alleged to have led students to stage a peaceful protest on November 24, 2017 after the school management increased various fees.

Those affected are the President of UNIBEN SUG, Osamudiamen Ogbidi, Justus Aidenagbon, Innocent Momodu, Goodnews Ehiabhi and Benjamin Majekodumi.

Reports had it that three of the students were rusticated for one academic session while two of them were rusticated for two academic session, while the affected students were also barred from holding any office in the campus or participating in student union activities.

A statement issued by the university press said the protest organized by the SUG executives was meant to disrupt the 47th Founders’ Day lecture and 43rd Convocation ceremony of the institution.

Those exonerated by the Senate were Goodluck Aregbor, Glory Charles, Eriamiatoe Austin Odia, Sylvester Asebofuh, Prince Imonitie, and Edward Evbuomwan Eguavoen.

It added that the UNIBEN SUG Vice President, Miss Frances Ifeoma Okogwa, is to act as President pending when election will be conducted.
