India to have its first National Employment Policy

The Government is formulating country’s first National Employment Policy (NEP)  for job creation.
It is expected that this policy will be announced in the upcoming budget.

It will have a comprehensive roadmap for all the employers and workers so that quality jobs can be created across all sectors through economic, social and labour policy interventions. The Employment Unemployment Surveys (EUS) of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) has  reported low and stable rates of unemployment over more than three decades.

“Indeed, unemployment is the lesser of India’s problems. The more serious problem, instead, is severe underemployment,” the Aayog said in the Three-Year Action Agenda for 2017-18 to 2019-20.
Over the years, India’s employment rate has declined and jobs have not been created up to the mark.

Also, the country lacks proper employment data as it is generated every five years.
