From March 17th until March 23rd, a delegation of Ukrainian representatives travels to the northern part of Germany (Flensburg), directly located at the border between the two countries Denmark and Germany.
The trip is part of the ongoing Ecmi project in Ukraine called Diversity Management for sustainable economic development (DMD). The project started in July 2018 and will be finalized in September 2019, supporting the administrative and territorial reform in Ukraine by strengthening the social empowerment and cohesion of its citizens. The goal is to provide participants with practical instruments to contribute to the development of their regions by managing diverse ethnic compositions successfully.
The venue of the study-trip is not a coincidence, “…it has been carefully chosen and fits the purpose”, stated Dr. Zora Popova (Manager to the project/ECMI).
The Ukrainian officials visit the Danish-Border region to get to know positive international practices of Minority regions and successful diversity management. “By introducing governmental minority- and networking institutions, the ECMI hopes to inspire the Ukrainian visitors”, remarked Katharina Schönharting, international Communications Coordinator at the ECMI. The Ukrainian participants are among other representatives of different ethnic communities, Local Self Governments and NGOs in Ukraine.
Over the week, the representatives met (among others), the Commissioner on National Minorities in Schleswig-Holstein, the Interreg-office in Kruså (DK) and the German Minority in Nordschleswig. Today, they are at the Danish Minority in Southern Schleswig and in the afternoon they will meet the Integration Commissioner of Flensburg. The ECMI says thank you to the speakers and participants for a very inspiring week!
