ECMI Director calls for Minority SafePack support

“The Minority SafePack is very important in the current situation in Europe, where national minorities are often neglected, especially in EU policies and programmes,” says the ECMI Director Prof. Dr. Tove Malloy, highlighting the importance of the initiative.

ECMI Director Prof. Dr. Tove Malloy and the ECMI support the FUEN and its partners in promoting the Minority Safepack. In doing so, Prof. Malloy highlighted the importance of the initiative, focusing on the regional aspect.  “I hope that with this SafePack and with the continued work of the FUEN in the EU, there will be a possibility that the EU will address minority issues at all levels, and especially at regional levels where many national minorities reside and are active participants in daily life of regions, in the definition and Europeanization of these regions. The Minority SafePack has a role to play, to bring to the decision makers this particular aspect of European culture and European diversity,” said Prof. Malloy during her video interview in Brussels.

Watch the statement:

Minority SafePack is a Citizens Initiative proposed by the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN). The initiative is a set of measures and concrete legal acts for the promotion and protection of the European minorities and the regional or minority languages at the EU level. The initiative is currently open for signatures.
