The ECMI is launching new activities in Georgia with new representation, new initiatives, and a new format. To celebrate the launch and to mark the German-Georgian partnership year, the ECMI is organizing a roundtable discussion in Tbilisi.

We are now pleased to announce that the Ecmi International in Georgia is launching new activities in Georgia with new representation, new initiatives, and a new format. To celebrate the launch and to mark the German-Georgian partnership year, the ECMI organizes a public event on December 5th, 2017 at 17:00. With the title “Georgia on a Path towards European Integration: Challenges and Perspectives” the Roundtable Discussion will take place at the EU and NATO Information Center.

The Roundtable discussion will gather public officials, minority representatives, and relevant stakeholders to discuss current pressing issues in Georgia and the future perspective, highlighting the role of national minorities and ethnic diversity.

German-Georgian Partnership Year 2017

In 2017, Georgia and Germany celebrate 25 years of successful co-operation and diplomatic relations. Both countries are home to ethnic and national minorities living in their midst, who have been ensured democratic rights to protect and promote their identities. Through the Georgian-German co-operation, civil society partnerships have been established around the goal of ethnic minority protection and implementation of minority rights. The European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI), based in Flensburg, Germany, has been part of this co-operation since 2003. Founded by the governments of Denmark, the Federal Republic of Germany and the region of Schleswig Holstein, the ECMI is honored to be a part of this year’s celebration and to continue contributing to an effective partnership between these two countries.

ECMI in Georgia

The ECMI International division has been present in Georgia through its office in Tbilisi covering the South Caucasus region. Throughout the years, the ECMI has focused its activities and programmes in the niches of Minority-Majority Relations, Dialogue and Consultation, Capacity Building and Policy Formation, Governmental and Institutional Support and Research and Documentation.
