So, I got my PhD yesterday. Woo, hurrah, celebrations, a bright academic career ahead of me, right?

No.

I hardly need to spell out why. Anyone who knows anything about academia knows what the political climate is like nowadays, particularly in the humanities and the social sciences. I spent two years fighting with everything I had to get my version of the Thesis past the gatekeepers, and now that I’m finally done I’m heading for the hills. And I’m not looking back.

(What was the thesis about? A look at the title of this blog should probably provide a hint.)

Oh yeah, there used to be some sort of blog here. But let’s not talk about that – I’m planning on going through past posts and quietly deleting most of them, it’s for the best. As for the future, if there is one, we’ll have to wait and see. I’m going to try some freelance writing now, as an “independent scholar,” so hopefully that’ll be fun. For me, at least.
