Latest Lovecraft-inspired board game on Kickstarter is Deep Madness

This is a “co-operative game for 1-6 players with amazingly detailed miniatures, depicting a sci-fi horror world inspired by Lovecraft’s work.”

In a dark and claustrophobic deep sea mining facility, the uncovering of a mysterious “Sphere” pulls those around it into a spiral of madness. The fears hidden deep down in the core of the human mind is amplified and transformed into horrifying monsters from other dimensions, torturing the mind, body and soul. Only those with extraordinary will and conviction can escape its devastating grasp.

The miniatures look nice, tentacles and all, but unfortunately there are also several things in this Campaign I absolutely hate: Kickstarter exclusives, endless stretch goals, a long-gone early bird backer level, etc. Having supported Kickstarter projects for about four years now, I’m so sick and tired of game companies pulling this same f-ing crap over and over again that I’m thinking seriously about quitting Kickstarter altogether. At least this campaign has one backer level for normal supporters, instead of the usual 50 bajillion or so – but think again if you thought that would keep things simple and manageable. There’s of course a bunch of “optional buys” that will only increase in number the more of these useless stretch goals are met, which means the usual hassle of sitting there and trawling through walls of text, trying to figure out what to add and what is included and what is not included and if it’s worth it or not and… I don’t mean to piss on this project in particular, there have been other campaigns that in comparison have been nightmarish beyond anything even Lovecraft could have come up with, but like I said, I’m just so fed up with these types of campaigns.

As for the inspiration from Lovecraft, it seems to be the usual: monster design, the players are investigators, and there’s a mechanism for madness in the game.
