Gingrich Reveals His Progressivism

There has been a whole lot of talk lately amongst Conservative pundits in the States about whether or not Newt Gingrich is a progressive, or in this case, a big-government Republican, or as I like to call them a rhino. I am sure that you have heard the tapes of him praising Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) for more than just leading America through World War II. Yet, I believe that tonight Gingrich revealed his true progressive colours, when he took a page right out of the Democrat Party’s playbook and labeled Romney anti-immigrant and anti-immigration. Not only that, but Romney also pointed out an interesting patter with Gingrich that has been occurring throughout the race.

More After the Break

Gingrich’s stance that Romney is anti-immigrant and anti-immigration; because Romney is against illegal immigration and illegal immigrants, in that he will not grant them amnesty, will deport those that have broken laws (crimes, terrorism etc.) and will encourage self-deportation whenever possible; is simply absurd and as Romney pointed out revolting. Stating in response that to suggest that he is anti-immigrant and anti-immigration is to insult his family, stating "my father was born in Mexico and my mother is from Wales."

It should be noted that this attack by Gingrich is directly from the progressive handbook, stating that because you are against illegal immigration therefore you are against all immigration and are therefore in some way racist. Not only that, but Gingrich is off his rocker to call Romney anti-immigration, for Romney has repeatedly stated that he is pro-legal immigration.

Yet, even more interesting than using an attack straight from the Democrat playbook, has been Newt’s patter of going to each state along the way and promising them billions, hundreds of billions, soon to add up to trillions of dollars in new federal spending to cater to each state’s individual needs, as was pointed out by Romney. This is of course, as Romney so accurately put it, "was how we got into this mess in the first place." Referring to the Fed's constant involvement in state business and in giving money to state’s for such things as infrastructure, always with strings attached.

This is clearly a sign from Newt Gingrich that he believes that the Federal Government should play an activist role in state infrastructure, meaning big-government, and meaning that he is a progressive. Something that the American people can’t afford now and especially can’t afford in the future when the debt is going to be over 16 trillion, more than the nation’s GDP.
