Ex-Boyfriend Opens Fire on Couple in Car, Victim Fights Back

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A late-night encounter turned violent early Thursday morning in St. Petersburg, Florida. According to St. Petersburg Police, shortly before 1:00 am, a man and woman were sitting in a car in an alley near 2353 13th St. S. when they were confronted by 23-year-old Keiondre Church, of St. Petersburg, according to police reports.

Church, who reportedly had dated the woman previously, allegedly fired a shot at the man in the vehicle. The situation quickly escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Both the man and woman in the car sustained non-life threatening injuries, while Church was last reported in critical condition at the hospital.

Church faces charges of attempted murder in the first degree and aggravated assault.

Being Prepared in a Confined Space

While the full details of the incident are still emerging, this event highlights the dangers of being caught off guard in a confined space. Sitting in a car, particularly with a seatbelt fastened, offers minimal protection and restricts movement in the face of an armed threat.

It remains unclear whether Church provided any warning before opening fire. However, reports indicate the male victim was able to return fire relatively quickly. If carrying concealed, appendix carry offers quicker access to your gun when seated.
