HOUSTON, TX – In Downtown Houston, a confrontation turned fatal when a 21-year-old man shot another man he claimed was following him after leaving a restaurant. The incident, which took place around 10 p.m. this past Sunday, led to the death of the man with multiple gunshot wounds at Ben Taub Hospital.

ABC13 reports that the incident began when the shooter noticed he was being followed upon exiting a restaurant. According to the Houston Police Department, the situation escalated at a crosswalk, where the pursuer, brandishing an ice pick, approached him. Fearing an imminent robbery, the young man shot the man with the ice pick in self-defense.

The shooter, who had contacted 911 to report the incident, was taken into custody by arriving officers, who also seized the firearm involved. This case now moves to a Grand Jury, which will determine whether charges will be filed.

In Texas, it is not uncommon for homicide cases, even those involving self-defense claims, to be reviewed by a grand jury.
