KOKOMO, IN – On October 15, 2023, at approximately 8:44 p.m., an Indiana resident called 911 to report a shooting incident following a break-in at his home. Kokomo Police responded and found a male with a gunshot wound near the front door area of the residence. Officers provided medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.

The Homeowner informed the police that he was asleep when he was awakened by the presence of an unknown male in his living room. When the homeowner attempted to get the individual to leave, the male physically attacked him, prompting the homeowner to discharge his weapon to stop the assault.

The intruder, identified as 51-year-old Scott Elliot Jones of Kokomo, died from his injuries. Meanwhile, the homeowner was treated for minor abrasions and bruising from the altercation.

This incident highlights the sudden and unpredictable nature of home invasions, drawing attention to the importance of home security measures. Installing an alarm system, motion cameras, or even having a dog could provide early alerts to homeowners, so you can be alerted of a suspect before he is standing in your living room.
