She's been called the 'Female Chihuly'

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is February 13-15, 2016. We'll be profiling some of the artists and performers who are participating this year.

Marlene Rose's specialty is Sand Cast Glass, the multi-award winner will be showing her work at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival this year, she is from New York. Her glass work is unique and each piece is different, you can see a nautical piece here and below Buddhist-style heads called the "Buddha Wall," all unusually colored.

Marlene had her first solo exhibition when she was in college at Tulane University. The exhibit was at a gallery in New Orleans, which sold out her work.
She has done a number of art shows around the country. "Close by I have done ArtMiami and ArtPalm Beach. I have also participated in SOFA NY and SOFA Chicago, ArtHamptons, Art San Francisco, Wheaton Village, Boston International Art Fair and many others in and out of the country," she says. Being an artist is Marlene's full time job. Above is "Celadon Oh Rings."

The large, colorful piece here is "Long Pyramid Quilt." Marlene told me that "I work in a very unusual technique in glass and I’m one of the few people in the world known for this technique called sand Cast Glass. NPR did an interview and called me the female answer to Chihuly. He is a robust man working with delicate glass while I am a woman all of 5’3 working in a very physical art form in a male dominated field making bold and large work."
