It’s not just Russian interference in our democratic process, state politicians have done a masterful job of gerrymandering and voter suppression. Take Kansas. In the historically infamous Dodge City there are no polling places. City residents have to travel 2½ miles out of town to vote at the city’s only polling place. 

Technological failures in Texas and Georgia (or is it software design or hacking) have led to votes being changed from Democratic to Republican candidates.

But these are just the most high profile of Voting failures. Here are a bunch more that drive the average voter nuts when they aren’t stripping away the franchise.

Machines in several precincts in NC also failed to read ballots due to high humidity in some polling places, the Raleigh News and Observer reported.  At the Golf Academy of America, a polling place in Chandler, AZ. election workers couldn’t open the doors as the building has been foreclosed and the locks changed. Around 5:30 a.m., Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes tweeted an advisory. “We are advising voters assigned to the Polling Place at 2031 N. Arizona Ave in Gila Precinct to use the Chandler City Hall Vote Center.”

But things were no better there.

“Apparently there’s an issue with the ballots,” Brian Murray, 43, said as he stood in a growing crowd at City Hall. He arrived around 6:15 a.m. and took his place in line. But it didn’t move. Instead he watched as a poll worker came out every few minutes and announced that the printers weren’t working.” (Credit azcentral.com)

In  Johnson County, IN, Clerk Sue Ann Misiniec told FOX59 that the county is having problems with its elections vendor, Election Systems & Software. She says it’s running extremely slowly and it’s “unacceptable.”

The wrong voting machines were delivered to Briarcliff High School and the Valhalla United Methodist Church said Tajian Nelson, who works in Democratic Commissioner Reginald LaFayette’s office for the Westchester County, NY, Board of Elections.

“The ballots that they would have had would have been the wrong district, and the machines wouldn’t have been programmed for those districts,” she said. (Credit: lohud.com)

At the Madding Elementary School in southeast Houston, the front desk iPads were not connecting to the internet which caused check-in problems for voters.

Customs and Border Protection, or CBP, agents were scheduled to hold a “crowd control” exercise Tuesday in the heavily Latino Chihuahuita neighborhood in El Paso, NBC reported.

The ACLU said the location and timing of the drill were “suspicious,” though a spokesman for CBP told NBC that the exercise would be conducted on a bridge away from the neighborhood itself.

At least one Gwinnett County, GA, voting precinct will be open later than usual Tuesday following technical issues that caused long lines and forced many voters to resort to paper ballots.

It raises the question, why is it that millions of Americans can bank, pay bills, arrange travel and buy theater tickets on line — but they can’y vote that way

And if we do have to show up to vote why isn’t the voting technology designed by the people who make ATM machines. How many times do they screw up? And every corner deli, bodega and convenience store has one — so how expensive can they be?
