Whiners: Heidi Cruz Can’t Buy a Second Home. David Brat Says He Is Worse off than a Drug Addict.

Which came first, whining or conservatism? Trump complained that the election was fixed before he won. And then when he did win, he complained that millions of illegal votes were cast, denying him the popular vote. Now he complains about ‘fake media’ which is code for reporting he doesn’t like. And it’s not just Trump. The rest of the Republicans are just as whiny.

Take Mrs. Heidi Cruz. This Marie Antoinette is miserable because the role of primary breadwinner falls to her as hubby Ted, a lowly US Senator, only contributes a measly $174,000 annually to the family coffers. Heidi moans that she has to work 70-hour weeks to keep the wolves from the door.

Let’s do some math. We know that Heidi earns more than Ted. How much? Substantially more. In 2014 the Cruz family declared an income of $1.2 million – which suggests her compensation is nudging $1 million. There is no reason why she hasn’t earned as much and more in the ensuing years. Yet Heidi is moved to note that they won’t be buying a second home any time soon. Perhaps not — but to suggest they don’t have the funds to do so is chutzpah.

Rep. David Brat, who toppled erstwhile party boss, Eric Cantor, is also complaining about his lot in life. This empathy-challenged, self-centered epitome of blindness to other’s suffering visited an addiction support group at the Chesterfield County Jail in his district. He told the benighted inmates that he was the real victim. In his words:

“You think you’re having a hard time ― I’ve got $5 million worth of negative ads coming at me. How do you think I’m feeling? Nothing’s easy. For anybody.”

“You think I’m a congressman, ‘Oh, life’s easy, this guy’s off having steaks every day’. Baloney. I’ve got a daughter, she’s got to deal with that crap on TV every day.”

“So it’s tough,” Brat continued. “No one out there’s got some easy life. Right?”

At no point, however, did Brat ask if any of the incarcerated unfortunates would like to switch places with him.

Melania Trump has gladly adopted Donald’s whiny modus operandi. For her First Lady initiative, she took on the scourge of cyberbullying — ironic considering her husband’s love of it. It seems, however, that far from being concerned about teenage victims Melania has a different target in mind. As she explained to ABC News’ Tom Llamas:

“I could say I’m the most bullied person on the world.”

It’s pathetic. Let her discuss cases with Micelle Obama, Christine Blasey Ford or Hillary Clinton. It is chutzpah to claim your distress is greater than that of gay and trans kids driven to suicide by online harassment. Or teen girls, whose sense of self-worth is already fragile, who are picked on by their merciless peers. Or kids with disabilities or physical defects who are attacked by people who are scared of the different.

It’s part of a pattern. Powerful people whining that they are getting picked on. Christians who think they are losers in a religious war. Men who believe that sexual assault leaves them the victim. And the rich who think they are targets of class warfare.

These people think that whining will make America great again. But I have more faith in the immigrant who strives to educate her children. In those inner city kids who shake off generations of disadvantage. And even in those white, wealthy kids who start companies which add value to the American economy.
