The Republican Party of Virginia is incensed that Sarah Huckabee Sanders had been booted from the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington Virginia. They made their feelings known today on Twitter.

Let’s parse this communique.

Chutzpah is nativist Conservatives playing the “intolerance” card. They are, after all, the philosophical home of Jim Crow laws, the KKK, the John Birch Society, the Moral Majority, anti-immigration and lately the Orwellian named bigotry “religious freedom”.

I’m not sure how effective their boycott is going to be. Do a lot of Trump voters eat at farm-to-table restaurants? And I suspect that for every conservative who turns his back on the eatery a greater number of liberals will be making reservations.

Patriots love their country. If your allegiance is to Trump no matter what he does then you aren’t a patriot, you are a zealot. Teddy Roosevelt  knew this:

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” ― Theodore Roosevelt

And lastly the claim that “Trump supporters are the silent majority in Virginia!” is asinine in a state where the Governor, Lt. Gov, Attorney General, and both Senators are Democrats.

The mendacious Sanders’ father sprang to her defense in usual hostile, snide, and febrile style.

Later he revealed his talent for fabulism on the Laura Ingraham show with this fairy story.

By the way Laura, there’s a part of that story that hasn’t been told, you’re going to be the first to hear it. Once Sarah and her family left, of course Sarah was asked to please vacate, Sarah and her husband just went home. They had sort of had enough.

But the rest of her family went across the street to a different restaurant. The owner of the Red Hen – nobody’s told this – then followed them across the street, called people, and organized a protest yelling and screaming at them from outside the other restaurant and creating this scene.”

Perhaps video will surface that proves Mike is right — but so far nothing.

Trump, of course, shoe-horned his way into the bluster – offering this tweet

As The Red Hen has a clean bill from the health department while Mar-a-Lago has been cited repeatedly for dirt and storing food at the wrong temperature, Trump needs to work on his rules.

Fox News joined the whiny chorus. Ansley Earhardt on Fox & Friends elevated the actions of one local restaurant owner to an incitement to violence across the land. Did she carry a tiki torch? Demand white rights? Run down an innocent woman with her car? No, but to Fox, she’s cut from the same cloth as neo-Nazis.

It’s hateful and it’s rude and it could lead to something very, very dangerous. It could lead to violence because you have people, their blood is just boiling. If there is a confrontation, someone could get hurt in all of this if you’re asking for people to be harassed. Sarah Huckabee Sanders at a restaurant, with her family.

Seven people there. Are her kids watching this? Are her kids seeing her mom being harassed just because they don’t agree with her political opinions? The lady who owns this restaurant, is she allowed to do that? Is that discrimination? Are you allowed to just kick someone out because you don’t agree with their policies or beliefs? Whatever happened to tolerance?

Let me answer Ansley’s last question. Tolerance is a rare flower in America as illustrated above. Now let’s add slavery, union busting, Japanese-American internment, mandatory minimum sentencing, voter suppression, misogyny and cops shooting unarmed citizens to the list.

Conservatives are the champions of projection, Every sin they assign to others has a sacred place in their hateful playbook.
