Deportations - Affecting Families

A lot of American families are being broken because parents are getting deported. The Children, born in America, are American citizens. When the parent is undocumented and ICE decides to deport him or her, the family is affected.

In instances where the mother is deported, the father and children have to live by themselves, which is not easy. Children, especially very young ones, suffer the loss of the mother. When the father is deported, it means the bread-winner is gone and making a living now becomes a problem.

Losing one parent can be so difficult. Imagine what happens in single-parent homes where the parent is undocumented! The children are sent to foster care or put up for adoption. Most of the time this is against the wishes of the parent. Officials are not willing to let extended family and relatives take care of the children.

There is no leniency once the parents are deported. Their cases are not looked at differently just because they have American children. This is a sad state of affairs.

The Obama administration's recent move to defer action for eligible undocumented immigrants is definitely a relief to some. Especially youngsters. But their parents have no reprieve. In several cases, these parents have no record against them, have never been in trouble, have been living life like any other American. Its just that they don't have the required legal status and documents to prove it.

The number of children being sent to foster care is increasing. Humanitarian concerns are arising. Children are suffering the most - crying all the time, bed-wetting, getting into unwanted activities. Child welfare is seeing a steady increase in the number of children and this is just going to keep shooting up until something is done to keep the parents and the children together.

Abused children, abandoned children - that is not what we want to see. Mentally and physically healthy children contributing the welfare of the country is what is required.
