I thought it was long overdue that someone like Bernie Sanders would rise to prominence in American politics. Not that I think he could be a savior or anything. But, at the very least, he seems to actually be intelligent, and care about what happens to average Americans, rather than just serving moneyed interests (such as Hillary Clinton, who sat on WalMart's board of directors for 6 years). Then I had the exact opposite feeling that we've hit “rock bottom” with the contest between Hillary and Trump. I was never a fan of either party, for reasons that should be obvious to anyone with a brain and half a conscience, but my current realization is that we will continue sinking below the rock bottom. I used to believe George W. Bush was the lowest we could get, given how that man wasn't fit to run a bowling league let alone an entire country, but Trump seems both idiotic and unlikable, and his only method of campaigning seems to involve bad mouthing his critics and saying something he knows will be sensational. And what few proposals he clearly advocates are either unrealistic, terrible or haphazardly worked out.

And that'e the thing about what I'm saying. It's not just about how unprincipled, immoral or just plain evil many of our so-called "leaders" are. It's also how stupid they seem to be, and most certainly are. In fact, that may even be what upsets me the most. I just can't sink so low as to want idiots running things. After all, that's the sort of thing an election would ideally prevent, right? We'd at least have intelligent people in office who, if they made a bad policy, can still be persuaded that they were wrong through reasoned argument. But no, practically none of these people would hear any of it, with Bernie possibly being the closest to an exception. But, of course, he's certainly not the one America will have as President. That's why, frankly, I believe Americans have wasted too much time making focusing on elections and need to start making more organic inroads to a better world. Sanity will not be imposed from above.
