Report: Google in Talks with Napster

Tags: napster

Shares in Napster soar by more than 30 per cent following a report that Internet giant Google Inc. has entered talks with Napster, looking to create an “extensive alliance”. Napster said that the company was not up for sale with a spokesperson stating:

"The company is not looking to be sold; the management is not looking to step out. It's simply not true."
According to the report by the NY Post, Google wants to launch a digital music service with Napster, rather than starting its own. According to a report by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, some 355 online music sellers exist globally, with a shakeout in the industry largely expected, digital music industry executives have said. Napster is a different and illegal way to share and download MP3 files. The songs are not stored on a central computer, but instead they are stored on a personal computer of a user. When you download a song off Napster, you are downloading it of another Napster user that could be living next to you, or halfway around the world. From Napster, anyone can download songs for free from any person that is using Napster and has the song available on his computer.
