When you select or click and drag text inside of a bunch of Microsoft (Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, and Ect.) applications, the application will ignore your starting point and automatically select the whole word. There is a way to disable this and I found it after some hard work. It’s the most annoying "feature" that Microsoft implemented. Here are the directions with screen shot.
Go to tools > options > click on the "edit" tab > uncheck "When selecting, automatically select entire word."
If you are using Mac OS, go to Word menu and pick Preferences. In the Preferences dialog box, select Edit in the menu and check off box labeled "When selecting, automatically select entire word."
