Minister of Environment, Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry (Mineagrie), Ir. Prosper DODIKO

The Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry (Mineagrie), Ir. Prosper DODIKO, recently concluded his visit to Ruyigi Province, aimed at assessing the progress of the government's program to promote Rabbit farming, also known as cuniculture.

During his visit, Minister Dodiko made a significant impact by inspecting key facilities and providing recommendations for the development of this burgeoning industry. His first stop was at the Kigarika breeding center, where he urged the expansion of the currently under-construction infrastructure.

One of the notable highlights of his visit was in Gitega, where a state-of-the-art rabbit abattoir is in the works. This modern facility, once completed, will have the capacity to process an impressive 2000 rabbits per hour, a display of the government's commitment to bolstering the cuniculture sector.

Minister Dodiko expressed his satisfaction with the dedication shown by the local population in responding to the government's directives. He further encouraged the community to embrace rabbit farming on a large scale, as the market for rabbit meat continues to grow steadily.

He also emphasized that the demand for rabbit meat is on the rise, ensuring a secure market for local rabbit farmers. The Minister's call to action aims to boost cuniculture and contribute to food security and economic growth in the region.
