Meeting with Swiss Ambassador Valentin Zellweger

His Excellency with Mr. Valentin Zellweger, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Burundi.


In a recent audience with His Excellency, the President of Burundi, discussions were held with Mr. Valentin Zellweger, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Burundi. The talks primarily revolved around enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation, as well as extending support to the ongoing peace restoration efforts in the region.


Minister Gervais Abayeho's Meeting with Ministry Officials





In another significant event on the same date, Ambassador Gervais Abayeho, the Minister for the Ministry of East African Community Affairs, Youth, Sports, and Culture, met with high-ranking officials from the ministry. The discussions mainly centered on the efficient functioning and successful execution of activities outlined in the Annual Action Plan (PAA 2023-2024) for the ministry.


Minister Gervais Abayeho urged all responsible individuals to fulfill their roles to ensure that the ministry attains its goals, particularly in the four key sectors: East African Community Affairs, Youth, Sports, and Culture.


Minister's Pledge for Good Governance


As part of the commitment to good governance, Minister Abayeho has expressed his intention to visit various General Directorates and affiliated institutions to understand their daily operations, address their concerns, and collaborate on solutions.


Bioeconomy and its Environmental Impact


Bangirinama Frédéric, the Secretary of the Ministry of National Education & Scientific Research, highlighted the concept of bioeconomy, emphasizing its use of scientific knowledge to enhance social and economic value from biological resources while maintaining a clean environment, including air, water, and land.


Support from the International Community for Agriculture


The Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry (Mineagrie), Ir Prosper DODIKO, hosted a delegation from the World Bank, FAO, and WFP. They introduced a project aimed at supporting agricultural inputs along with cash transfers to vulnerable individuals across six provinces.


A joint monitoring committee will be established to expedite the project's progress. The visiting team extended their congratulations to the Minister and wished him success in his new role.


Addressing Unemployment in Burundi


Tom Bundervoet


Tom Bundervoet, an expert from the Bank, shared concerning figures that indicate a disparity in the job market. He revealed that by 2030, 300,000 Burundians will seek employment annually, but only 20,000 will successfully secure jobs within the country. This revelation came on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, marked on October 17.
