Burundi Tax Authority Engages with Rumonge Province Taxpayers




In a bid to promote awareness about tax laws and procedures, the electronic billing system, and the new provisions of the 2023 budget law, the Burundian revenue authorities, or L'Office Burundais des Recettes, met with taxpayers from Rumonge Province on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. This initiative also sought to address issues related to the management of public market stalls and the use of electronic billing machines.


During the meeting, taxpayers emphasized the importance of more frequent exchange sessions. They believe that increased interaction with the authorities will enable them to contribute effectively to the country's development.


Seventeen Livestock Traders Arrested in Ngozi Province



A total of 17 commissionaires were apprehended at the Vyegwa livestock market in Gashikanwa commune, Ngozi Province. Administrative Commissioner Théophile Nibizi disclosed that investigations had been conducted, and legal cases would be compiled to ensure their punishment in accordance with the law.


The arrest of these traders has raised concerns as some accuse them of being responsible for the recent surge in beef prices. Over the course of just one month, the price of beef skyrocketed from 11,000 Fbu per kilogram to 14,000 Fbu per kilogram in Ngozi.


Burundi's Participation in the Global School Feeding Coalition Meeting



Dr. Jean Bosco Girukwishaka, the Executive Secretary of the Office of the First Lady for Development in Burundi (OPDD), is representing the Burundian government in the first-ever global meeting of the School Feeding Coalition taking place in Paris, France, from October 18 to 19, 2023.


The primary objective of this gathering is to work towards achieving universal school feeding coverage for preschool and primary cycle schools, increasing from the current 24% in 2023 to 100% by 2032.
