Philadelphia Theaters Launch Audio Description Network

Thanks to funding from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA), Philadelphia theaters are launching the Audio Description Learning Network (ADLN) for the 2023-2024 season.

The ADLN aims to recruit and train audio describers to make cultural events more accessible to those who are Blind, have Low-Vision, or are Visually Impaired. It will offer free audio description training sessions to diversify and increase the number of audio describers.

The ADLN also has a Fellowship Program focused on recruiting and training BIPOC and LGBTQ+ audio describers to better reflect the diversity on stage. Participating theaters include Hedgerow Theatre, People’s Light, Wilma Theater, and 1812 Productions. The initiative is part of the ongoing effort to enhance arts accessibility in the region.
