Prime minister Abazovíc in Manila

The Philippine Star, September 22 Montenegro’s Prime Minister Dritan Abazovíc visited Manila, marking the first-ever head of state from Montenegro to visit the Philippines. Despite the private nature of his visit to support Montenegro’s men’s basketball team in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Abazovíc was warmly welcomed by President Marcos.

The Prime Minister highlighted Montenegro’s allure as a tourist destination and emphasized the desire to facilitate easier access for Filipino tourists. The discussion included opportunities for Filipino workers in Montenegro’s expanding tourism and energy sectors.

Abazovic hoped for the Philippines to establish an established presence in his country, discussing flights between Manila and Podgorica. He also hoped for the Philippines to open a consulate in Montenegro, as it would provide a diplomatic place for sharing services and business contacts. Abazovic believes the role of the Philippines will have more impact in Europe, as Montenegro is the gateway to Eastern Europe.
