Dhubri – Assam police have arrested three individuals for their alleged involvement in an attack on Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) employees during an anti-power theft operation in Dumrdah village, Dhubri district. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, left three employees, including a sub-divisional engineer, critically injured.

According to police reports, the APDCL team was conducting an inspection in the area following information that some villagers were illegally using pump sets to water their fields by stealing electricity from power poles. The team, led by sub-divisional engineer Manzoorul Haque, confiscated five pump sets that were being used to water the fields with stolen electricity.

However, while the operation was underway, a group of miscreants launched an attack on Haque and his team. Besides Haque, Apdcl Employees Mohidul Haque and Rafiqul Haque were also injured in the assault.

Upon learning about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot, and the injured employees were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Dhubri Police have since arrested three individuals in connection with the assault, and an investigation is currently ongoing.

The main suspect in the attack remains at large, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him. In response to the incident, APDCL employees staged a demonstration in Dhubri on Friday, demanding the swift arrest of the prime accused and severe punishment for those involved in the attack.

The incident underscores the risks faced by power Department Employees in their efforts to curb electricity theft, a significant issue in many parts of the country. The APDCL has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of its employees and to continue its operations against power theft.
