Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has discussed with the State Bank of India (SBI) about providing insurance to families of Police personnel. The insurance coverage will range from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 75 lakh and will be implemented soon.
During the Police Commemoration Day event, YS Jagan paid tribute to the police martyrs who sacrificed their lives. He expressed the government’s commitment to support the families of these brave officers.
The Chief Minister handed over a cheque of Rs 30 lakh to the wife of a police officer who was killed during the Ganesh festival. YS Jagan emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of girls and women, especially those from oppressed classes.
He also highlighted the need for the police to adapt to modern methods used by criminals and to redefine the term “anti-social elements.” The Chief Minister urged the police to deal sternly with groups that aim to disturb peace in society.
YS Jagan listed several measures that have been taken to strengthen the police system in Andhra Pradesh. These include the appointment of 16,000 women police officers at the village and ward secretariat level, an increase in salaries for Home Guards, and the creation of four new IR battalions.
However, the Chief Minister mentioned that legal battles have hindered the appointment of new staff in the department. He urged the Director General of Police to take steps to resolve these legal hurdles as soon as possible.
YS Jagan also highlighted efforts to ensure the safety of women in the state, such as the establishment of Disha police stations and the appointment of Disha Public Prosecutors. He mentioned that around 1.25 crore women have downloaded the Disha mobile application, which has helped rescue 31,200 women.
The Chief Minister concluded the event by laying a wreath at the Police memorial and observing a two-minute silence for the police martyrs. Home Minister Taneti Vanita, Chief Secretary Dr KS Jawahar Reddy, DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy, and senior officials were also present.
