‘India Gate’s Kartavyapath Temporarily Unavailable for Walkers and Picnickers Until Conclusion of G20 Summit’

The Delhi Police has announced that India Gate and Kartvayapath will be high controlled zones until the G-20 Summit is over. As a result, morning walkers, cyclists, and picnickers are asked to stay away from these areas. The G-20 Summit is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 10 at the newly built Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan.

The Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), S S Yadav, stated in a press conference that people should avoid visiting the area for walking, cycling, or picnicking during the G-20 Summit. The Delhi Police has also requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to start operating trains from 4 am to avoid inconvenience to people.

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora sent a letter to the DMRC requesting train services to start from 4 am on September 8, 9, and 10 so that security personnel can reach their duty posts on time. The Delhi Metro officials have confirmed that services will start from 4 am from terminal stations on all lines of the network on those three days.

Yadav also mentioned that online delivery of essential commodities will be allowed, but there will be restrictions on food delivery services in the New Delhi district. Media personnel with G-20 passes will gather at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and be shuttled to the venue, but no taxis will be allowed. Media persons will need to show their organization ID cards to access their offices.

Yadav apologized for the traffic congestion during the rehearsals and stated that they have allowed traffic movement from time to time during the rehearsals and drills to prevent chaos on the roads. He advised people to use the navigation app ‘Mapmyindia’ to reach their destinations due to the traffic and security arrangements. Additionally, no buses or taxis will be allowed near the Controlled Zone, but taxi and bus services from ISBT Kashmiri Gate will remain functional.
