Supporters of Bhim Army rally against assault on Chandrashekhar

Thousands of Bhim Army supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to protest the recent attack on their chief, Chandrashekhar Azad. They demanded Z-plus security for him. Chandrashekhar, the co-founder of Bhim Army and National President of Azad Samaj Party, was shot at by unknown attackers in Uttar Pradesh on June 28. Although he was grazed by a bullet, he did not sustain any serious injuries.

Leaders and supporters from Rashtriya Lok Dal and Samajwadi Party, who are allies of the newly formed party in Uttar Pradesh, also attended the protest. Additionally, representatives from various Dalit groups joined in, raising slogans in support of BR Ambedkar.

Supporters of Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal wore their signature red and green caps, while Bhim Army supporters wore blue caps and sashes. Anuj Kumar, a supporter from Saharanpur, stated that a larger protest would be organized if the government fails to provide security to Chandrashekhar.

Vishnu, another supporter who came from Rajasthan, called for a CBI investigation into the attack. The Azad Samaj Party released a statement declaring that the attack was not only on an individual but on the entire Bahujan community.

The statement further mentioned a larger pattern of continual threats faced by the opposition in the country, either through the misuse of government machinery like ED and CBI or through violent means.
