Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal urges citizens to assist those affected by floods

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has urged people to stay away from submerged areas and the old Yamuna Bridge for selfies or sightseeing, and instead help those affected by the flooding. The water level of the Yamuna river has reached 208.46 meters, causing flooding on surrounding roads. Kejriwal has requested people to avoid traveling on these roads.

As the water level continues to rise, residents in the affected areas are being evacuated to safer places. This is the highest recorded flood in 45 years when the Yamuna water level had crossed 207.49 meters. Due to the rising water level, several water treatment plants in Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla have been shut down. This may cause water scarcity in some parts of Delhi. The government will resume these plants as soon as the water level decreases.

Kejriwal has emphasized the importance of saving lives and has urged residents to cooperate with the authorities during the evacuation process. He has called for unity among Delhi residents to support each other during this emergency situation. Kejriwal has also appealed to volunteers, councillors, MLAs, and other individuals to visit relief camps and provide support.

Due to the flooding, the ring road from Majnu ka Tila to Rajghat was closed on Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, adjacent roads were also closed. The Delhi Police have successfully evacuated 1,006 people and 999 cattle from various areas, including New Usmanpur, Shastri Park, and Sonia Vihar police stations.

According to sources in the Delhi government, a total of 16,000 individuals have been evacuated so far and have been relocated to relief camps.
