Malakpet Reservoir | Second Pump Trial Run Successful

Kaleshwaram project’s Package-9 witnessed a successful trial run at the Malakpet Reservoir. One pump has already been tested successfully, and the second pump underwent a trial run for an hour from 12:40 pm to 1:40 pm on Sunday. This is the second trial run after the first pump was tested on the 23rd. Both pumps were successful in the trial run, as announced by Minister KTR and District Collector Harsham.

With an estimated cost of 1500 crores, the government is working towards completing the Lift Irrigation Scheme. However, there is still a lack of unity among the farmers. After the inauguration of the project, Minister KTR promised water supply from the Godavari River to the farmers. The 9th Package of the Kaleshwaram project aims to provide water to Singasamudram Cheruvu in Mancherial Mandal, Gambhiravupeta Mandal, and other areas. The project includes the construction of underground tunnels and three reservoirs. The underground tunnels from Ramappagutta to Malkapet are completed, covering a distance of 12.3 km.

To pump water from Sarjipool to Malkapet Reservoir, two electric motors with a capacity of 30 megawatts each have been installed. One motor has already pumped 550 cusecs of water. Additionally, seven gates have been constructed for research purposes. A 5 km long canal has been built, with each band having a kilometer of length. To provide electricity for pumping water, a separate substation with a capacity of 90 megawatts has been established, along with a 33/11 KV electricity substation.

The Malakpet Reservoir trial run has given hope to the people living in the surrounding areas. They are expressing their gratitude towards Minister Ramanna for fulfilling their aspirations. Once the project is completed, it will provide water to lakhs of Acres of land. The construction work for the canal from Malkapet Reservoir to Singasamudram Cheruvu in Mancherial Mandal and the Bhattal Cheruvu in Gambhiravupeta Mandal is in progress. The canal will distribute water to these areas.

The Kaleshwaram project will benefit a total of 64,470 acres in Sirisilla, 31,680 acres in Vemulawada, 8,750 acres in Sirisilla Mandal, 29,875 acres in Ellareddipeta Mandal, 9,279 acres in Gambhiravupeta Mandal, 9,599 acres in Mustabad Mandal, 7,805 acres in Vemulawada Urban Mandal, 1,000 acres in Vemulawada Rural Mandal, 22,875 acres in Konaraopet Mandal, and 6,967 acres in Veernapalli Mandal. Out of these, 60% of the land will be used for new cultivation, while 26,150 acres will be used for stabilization purposes.
