32 lakh trees to be planted in Khammam district with the aim of going green

District Collector VP Gautham spoke about the Haritha Haram program in Khammam District. The goal is to plant 32.477 lakh saplings in 2023 and 31.06 lakh saplings in 2024. Different departments will work together to reach these targets in specific areas. They will prioritize planting in irrigation department lands and natural woodlands near villages to promote biodiversity.

They plan to plant seedlings in vacant areas of land granted to Satthupalli Battalion, Police Headquarters, and JNTU. They also want to grow trees around sports grounds and in abandoned Singareni mines. Plants will be grown in nurseries according to demand for homestead plant distribution.

10% of the budget will be allocated to nursery, maintenance, plantation, tree guards, and other projects. The pitting process should begin right away, and gaps in nurseries should be filled. The Collector emphasized that everything should be prepared for the commencement of the plantation process.

Additional officials attended the meeting, including the Additional Collector, Training Assistant Collector, District Forest Officer, ZP CEO, DRDO Vidyachandana, Khammam Municipal Corporation Assistant Commissioner, AD Survey and Land Records, GM Industries, and AD Mines.
