Government hospital doctors in Hyderabad express anger over attack by patient’s attendants.

Doctors at various government hospitals in Hyderabad protested after attendants of a patient who had passed away attacked a senior resident doctor in the nephrology department. The incident occurred at NIMS hospital on Thursday. The patient, a 62-year-old woman, was admitted in critical condition early in the morning but succumbed to Emphysematous pyelonephritis and sepsis later that day. A mob of 10-12 attendants stormed into the ARCU and tried to attack a senior resident doctor who was treating another patient. When her senior intervened, one of the attendants hit the senior doctor on the shoulder, held his neck and tried to choke him. The angry attendants also prevented doctors from performing CPR on another patient. Dr Jeeshan, the president of Resident Doctors’ Association, NIMS, condemned the attack and stated that doctors work day and night to save patients and get assaulted and harassed in return by society. The Indian Medical Association and the Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association also condemned the violent incident.

In a statement issued by the Resident Doctors’ Association, NIMS, members demanded that the Telangana government take urgent and strict action against the culprits. They also threatened to stage a protest and shut down hospitals if doctors are not protected in the future. The Indian Medical Association requested that hospitals be declared as protected zones and necessary protocols be formulated to protect doctors and healthcare professionals while treating patients. The Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association expressed concern over the violent incident and condemned it, calling for immediate and necessary action to ensure the safety of doctors and healthcare professionals.
