How could they turn this abandoned Horse Stable into a guesthouse? This is just incredible! Check out the comments for more photos
A 1967 suburban Horse Stable was turned into a work studio and guesthouse. Located in the Bridle Trails area of Kirkland, Washington, known for its horse trails, the old stable was no longer in use. Thomas Schaer, a principal at Shed, explained how they transformed the space.
The building’s outer structure stayed mostly the same as before; the roof’s shape remained intact, and the gabled roof can still be seen from inside. Schaer mentioned that the unusual combination of roof shapes was a design challenge, but it also helped them organize the space, which is like a long hallway.
A central exposed beam on the ceiling is from the original stable, and a Coral Pendant light hangs behind it.
Since the space needed to handle wear and tear, the architects chose simple materials for both practicality and the client’s preference for a straightforward look.
