Borno State Police Confirm Arrest of Two in Connection with the Tragic Killing of Assembly Member's Daughter

Borno State, Nigeria – In a recent development, the Borno State Police Command has officially verified the detention of two individuals, namely 31-year-old Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim, hailing from Dikechiri, and 39-year-old Bukar Wadiya, also from Dikechiri. This arrest is linked to the tragic death of a 24-year-old woman, who was the daughter of a member of the Borno State House of Assembly representing Ngala Local Government Area.

The deceased, prior to her untimely demise, was the spouse of Ibrahim, who is the primary suspect in this case.

A press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sani Shatambaya, on Friday provides insights into the incident: "On the 18th of October 2023, at approximately 1800 hours, Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim, 31 years of age from Dikechiri Bayan Gidan Dambe area in Maiduguri, arrived at Gwange Division in the company of Bukar Wadiya, aged 39. They were driving a Honda Vehicle with Registration Number MAG 230 AP and Chassis Number ANR742256679821, and within the vehicle was the lifeless body of a woman, whom Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim claimed to be his wife. He urgently sought assistance from the police.

"The woman was subsequently identified as Fatima Alhaji Bukar. According to her husband, he worked at UBA and returned from work around 17:00 hours to find her lying in a pool of blood.

"Preliminary investigations have revealed that before this tragic incident, the couple had been embroiled in domestic disputes concerning an alleged extramarital affair involving the husband at their matrimonial residence.

"The house in question, situated in the Dikechiri Bayan Gidan Dambe Area of Maiduguri, was secured. During a search of the premises, various pieces of evidence were recovered, including a short pestle, a rope, a rug stained with blood, a knife, and the Honda vehicle with Chassis Number ANR742256679821 and License Plate MAG230AP, as well as a pillow stained with mucus.

"There was no indication of forced entry into the house, as only the husband possessed the key to open it from the outside.

Both the husband and Bukar Wadiya were apprehended as principal suspects, and a discreet investigation is currently in progress for the purpose of thorough prosecution," the statement concluded.
